It isn’t much benefit from significantly jacking up the price of the subscription. The new game libraries are pretty tiny, and besides the Animal Crossing DLC you don’t get anything more than you’d already get with the standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription. We can’t recommend buying this dubious upgrade, unless you’re very, very interested in some of the N64 or Genesis games and don’t have any other way to play them. The primary problem is that not all Switch games are compatible. Cloud saving doesn’t even work with all first-party Nintendo games.

Before a match, you select a team of three characters, and making matches and popping tiles builds up your MP stat bar. So far, nothing new, since you’ll be using this to attack your opponents and chisel away at their HP bar in order to win. Skill Battle is more character-based though, so depending on which characters you select you’ll have unique skills and attacks at your disposal, adding an additional layer of strategy.

It’s awesome to finally have the ability to play with friends, it comes with the caveat that all remaining spots are filled with CPU opponents. If my brother and I want to play Tetris against each other, I’d rather have a direct 1v1 instead of being saddled with 97 CPU opponents. If you get eliminated, the game has a few systems in place to keep you watching till the end.
Nintendo Switch Online also gives you access to dozens of free games, including classics from the Nintendo 64. If you’re paying for Nintendo Switch Online, you also get access to theNintendo Entertainment System andSuper Nintendo Entertainment System emulators, with a good variety of retro titles to play through. There are a huge number of games now available for the Switch, including an assortment of free and free-to-play titles.
I’m satisfied with what’s included here on day one, but the promise of new content is welcome. Additionally, a day one patch will add touch screen support on Switch. As this review is being written pre-launch, I can’t confirm the touch screen support is good, but it should be there.

Of course, I didn’t have time to play any other Tetris beyond Tetris 99 during the event, so I T-spin practiced my way to a ton of my own early knockouts. Visualizing how to set up a T-spin doesn’t feel as natural as aligning blocks for a straight Tetris, and I struggled. I found that instead of intentionally setting up T-spins, the way I was able to use the practice during the event was to fill accidental holes whenever they happened.
PUYO PUYO TETRIS ON NINTENDO SWITCH
Ecco the Dolphin is hands-down the most visually impressive game on this list of the best Sega Genesis games. It’s also the most calming – whether you’re solving puzzles with Ecco’s dolphin song or ramming enemies with his nose, there’s something zen-like about gliding through the game’s virtual ocean. Part of what keeps Gunstar Heroes’ gameplay feeling fresh is this customisation element, and the consistently inventive level design does the rest. Gunstar Heroes looks great too, thanks to developer Treasure’s ingenious workarounds for the Genesis’ various graphical limitations. Another run and gun shooter, Gunstar Heroes is an uninterrupted thrill ride from the moment players press “start”.
